This specimen was part of lot 20649 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it sold for $2,585. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Four Piece Proof Set, 2008. GEM BRILLIANT PROOF. S-PBG30. Includes the 10, 25, 50 & 100 Pound pieces, all featuring the Britannia standing facing left, her dress transforming into a wave on the reverse. Issue number 567 out of an authorized mintage of 1,250. Includes certificate of authenticity and wooden display case. Attractive design and in superb condition. Total of 1.85 Troy ounces AGW." In 1987, emulating the krugerrand, the maple leaf, the American gold eagle and other bullion coins, the Royal Mint introduced the Britannia program. Gold one, half, quarter and tenth ounce pieces were coined and marketed. To boost sales, the reverses were changed annually.

Specification: 6.51 g, 0.917 fine gold, 27 mm diameter, 0.250 troy oz AGW. This design was also struck in platinum (KM 1100a).
