Sincona sale 86, lot 1778

This specimen was lot 1778 in Sincona sale 86 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 275 CHF (about US$370 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Elizabeth II. 1952-2022. Proof 25 Pounds 2007, Royal Mint Llantrisant. Britannia 1/4 oz Platinum. APW total: 7.79 g. NGC PF69 ULTRA CAMEO."

The Britannia series were bullion coins intended to compete with the Chinese panda, the American silver eagle, the Canadian maple leaf and so forth. Coins were sold in various sizes in silver, gold (KM 1092) and occasionally platinum, as here.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 7.84 g, 0.999 fine platinum, 20 mm diameter. This specimen 7.80 g.
