from the Stack's Bowers June 2021 Collector's Choice sale, lot 71538

This specimen was lot 71538 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $1,200. The catalog description^[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 2 Pounds, 2007. Llantrisant Mint. NGC PROOF-70 Ultra Cameo. A beautiful example that boasts extreme cameo contrast and the highest obtainable third party certification." This type was struck 1998-2008, as a revival of the old two pounds struck in Victorian and Edwardian times. It was accompanied by a gold sovereign and five pounds, also not intended to circulate.

Recorded mintage: 2,500 proofs.
