Sincona sale 86, lot 1785

This specimen was lot 1785 in Sincona sale 86 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 850 CHF (about US$1,145 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Elizabeth II. 1952-2022. Proof Gold Pound 2008, Royal Mint Llantrisant. Royal Arms. Sehr selten. Nur 860 Exemplare geprägt, Mit Originaletui und Zertifikat, Very rare. Only 860 pieces struck. NGC PF69 ULTRA CAMEO. With original box and certificate. No. 311 of 860 sets."

This variety of the one pound coin has the plain shield on the reverse. This design was struck until 2014. The gold version was for sale to collectors. This denomination was also struck with the full royal arms on the reverse (KM 993).

Recorded mintage: 43,827,300 plus 56,333 proofs in brass plus 5,000 plus pieforts in silver plus 860 in gold plus more in platinum.

Specification: 9.5 g, nickel brass, 22.5 mm diameter, lettered edge, or 9.5 g, 0.925 fine silver, or 16.6 g, 0.917 fine gold.
