Sincona sale 38, lot 1663

This type was struck 1822-38 at Popayán and Bogotá. This type is one of the commonest gold coins of South America but the recent rise in the price of gold has made this coin expensive. This specimen was lot 1663 in Sincona sale 38 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 1,000 CHF (about US$1,199 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"Republik Kolumbien, 1820-1837 8 Escudos 1827. JF-Popayan Sehr schön. (republic of Colombia, eight escudos of 1827, Popayan mint, Very fine.)"
