This type was struck 1823-29 and 1836 at Bogotá. This specimen was lot 220 in Sedwick sale 9 (Winter Park, FL, April 2011), where it sold for $5,462.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Bogotá, Colombia, 2 escudos, 1825JF, encapsulated NGC AU-55, rare. Lustrous and choice, nicer strike than usual. Sedwick says in his book: 'Every date in this series, which is underrated, merits RR.' Norweb's AU specimen sold for $1,100, and Eliasberg's EF-45 sold for $1,265. Lou Collins 8/78. Dr. Frank Sedwick collection of Colombian Republic gold coins."
