Iran AH 1296 toman
This specimen was lot 1021 in Sincona sale 85 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 8,500 CHF (about US$11,446 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"IRAN, Nasir al-Din Shah, 1264-1313 AH (1848-1896). 1 Toman 1296 AH (1879 AD), Tehran Mint. Lion & Sun type. Very rare date. NGC MS64 PL. Magnificent condition. From the Kian collection, auction SINCONA 49, October 2018, lot 22. Bought from Spink & Sons, London, 1991. Finest certified by NGC."
With the coming of the milled coinage, all of the branch mints were closed and all production was completed in Tehran. One thousand dinars made a kran and ten kran made a toman. This type is listed in the SCWC as undated.
