Sincona sale 85, lot 1020

This specimen was lot 1020 in Sincona sale 85 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 10,000 CHF (about US$13,466 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN, Nasir al-Din Shah, 1264-1313 AH (1848-1896). 1 Toman 1294 AH (1877 AD), Tehran Mint. Lion & Sun type. Very rare date. NGC MS62. From the Kian collection, auction SINCONA 49, October 2018, lot 23. Bought from Spink & Son, London, 1991. Finest certified by NGC."

With the coming of the milled coinage, all of the branch mints were closed and all production was completed in Tehran. One thousand dinars made a kran and ten kran made a toman. This type is listed for AH 1294 only.
