Mexico 1784-Mo FM 4 escudos
This specimen was lot 3166 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $1150. The catalog description[1] noted, "1784 FM 4 escudos. Mexico City mint. VF details (NCS). Types as above. Light yellow gold with some lustre in the protected areas, lightly cleaned, faint scratches on both sides. Purchased from Mortimer Hammel, April 1945." The type was struck in Mexico City 1773-88, and tho less rare than the "rat nose" type of 1762-71, is still expensive.

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.875 fine gold, .380 troy oz AGW. This specimen: 13.42 grams, 30.20 mm diameter.
