Shown is an 1784MoFM 8 reales of Charles III, one of a type struck 1773-84. Assayer FM is recorded for the years 1783-1801. Assayer FF is known for 1777-84 but is very rare for 1784. The dollar that George Washington allegedly threw over the Potomac could have been of this type. Harris[1] notes that the Mexico City eight reales is by far the most abundant coin of Charles III. The next most common issue, the two reales from Mexico City, is less than half as common.
