This specimen was lot 33496 in Heritage sale 3082 (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $1,050. The catalog description[1] noted, "China: People's Republic silver Proof "Year of the Dragon" 100 Yuan (12 oz) 1988 PR68 Ultra Cameo NGC. A better lunar series emission, ranking near the peak of certified examples with not one piece awarded technical perfection by either NGC or PCGS." After Hong Kong released several successful commemoratives in the late 70's featuring the Chinese zodiac, the government of China took notice. This NCLT honoring the Year of the Dragon was accompanied by KM 193 (silver 10 yuan); KM 194 (silver 50 yuan); KM 196 (gold 100 yuan); KM 196 (gold 100 yuan), KM 197 (platinum 100 yuan), KM 199 (gold 500 yuan) and KM 200 (gold 1000 yuan). The Chinese government has, since the mid 1980's, produced a mind boggling array of bullion related collectibles. A complete set is thousands of types yet buyers clamor for more.
