from the Stack's Bowers 2018 ANA sale, lot 44275

This specimen was lot 44275 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 1/4 Decimo, 1869. Popayan Mint. AU-58 (PCGS). Crude but sharp strike, lightly toned. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins." This coin is a quarter décimo, or 1/40 of a peso (a quarter real is 1/32 of a peso); this denomination was struck at Bogotá 1868-71 and 1881 and Popayán (shown here) 1868-81. None are common, particularly in nice condition.

Recorded mintage: unknown but common.

Specification: 0.85 g, 0.666 fine silver.
