Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp 1626-ST 1/2 thaler
This specimen was lot 4376 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabruck, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €950 (about US$1,243 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN, HOLSTEIN-GOTTORP, HERZOGTUM, Friedrich III. 1616-1659. 1/2 Reichstaler 1626, Steinbek. RR Sehr schön. (Germany, duchy of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp, Frederick III, 1616-59, half thaler of 1626, Steinbek mint. Rare, very fine.)"
The dynastic affairs of this duchy are complicated even by German standards as the dukes were related to the king of Denmark and even the czar of Russia. Most coin issues are rare. We can't tell if this is KM 64 (1622 and 1626) or 71 (1623, 1626-28). Neither are photographed or thoroughly described in the SCWC.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver, this specimen 14.31 g.
