Heritage sale 3029, lot 31808

This specimen was lot 31808 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $705. The catalog description[1] noted, "Carl XIV Johan 1/12 Riksdaler 1831-CB, MS63 NGC. Nicely struck with even silvery-gray patina on both sides. Scarce type in mint state." This type is noted for 1831-33 and is the last of its denomination. In the reform of 1830, the twelfth, sixth and third riksdalers were dropped for eighth, quarter and half riksdalers.

Recorded mintage: 212,000.

Specification: 2.83 g, 0.750 fine silver, 19 mm diameter.
