Sweden 1831-CB riksdaler specie Dav-352
This specimen was lot 1050 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $3,025. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN. Karl XIV Johan. 1818–1844. AR Riksdaler. Stockholm mint. Christopher Borg, engraver. Dated 1831 CB. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 63. Choice brilliant uncirculated with a hint of luster overall. Superb looking coin with wonderful strike. Only graded specimen and quite rare in this grade. Purchased from M. Louis Teller, September 1979." This type was struck 1831-42 and is somewhat common. The present dynasty is descended from Charles Bernadotte, one of Napoleon's generals who defected to Sweden. Collecting Swedish coins is complicated by the multiple currency reforms the country underwent during the period.
