This specimen was lot 34507 in Heritage sale 3094 (Chicago, August 2021), where it sold for $5,280. A lovely and practically as-struck gold Cob with surprisingly well-centered features and fully readable date, the surfaces bearing no evidence of sea salvage which is sometimes associated with this type, some of which originate from the 1715 Plate Fleet. A thoroughly pleasing example of the type. From the Long Island Collection." This type was issued from Bogotá 1701-13. Specimens with legible dates are worth double those without. This type comes without a mintmark or assayer initials. Many have been made into jewelry and sold as "pirate gold."

Recorded mintage: unknown.
