Aureo sale 242, lot 163

The specimen shown was lot 163 in Aureo y Calicó sale 242 (Barcelona, Spain, March 2011), where it sold for 5,000 € (about US$7,763 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Felipe V (1700-1746). 1712/1. Sevilla. M. 2 escudos. Anv.: PPHILIPPVS con la primera P rectificada con un punto encima. Rev.: M-2-2-S. Flan grande. Bellísima. Brillo original. Muy rara así. S/C-. (Two escudos of 1712, Seville mint; obverse: PPHILIPPVS with the first P corrected to an R; large planchet, very handsome, original luster, very rare thus, about uncirculated.)

This type was issued at Seville 1711-18. The conspicuous overdate is listed but awarded no premium.

Recorded mintage: unknown but rare.
