This specimen was lot 71388 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $3,840. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Cob 2 Escudos, 1712-MXo J. Mexico City Mint. Philip V. NGC MS-62. Weight: A bright and softly lustrous Cob, exhibiting some sharp detail on portions of both sides. Though the date is illegible, the type can be determined by the reverse cross style." All Mexican colonial gold may be considered scarce. This type is listed for 1704-13. Most specimens lack dates.
