Great Britain (1628-29) crown Fr-248
This specimen was lot 1606 in Sincona sale 82 (Zurich, May 2023), where it sold for 2,000 CHF (about US$2,677 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Charles I. 1625-1649. Gold Crown of 5 Shillings n. d. (1628-1629), Tower Mint under the King. Group B. Class I. Bust 2, large bust with short truncation. Mintmark "anchor with flukes to right below bust / anchor upright". Selten in dieser Erhaltung (Rare in this condition). NGC MS61. Finest certified by NGC." This gold double crown (ten shillings) was accompanied by a gold angel (Fr-245), double crown (Fr-247) and unite (Fr-246). Charles' conflicts with Parliament and his subsequent inability to raise funds cramped the production of gold.
