from the Stack's Bowers 2022 Collector's Choice sale, lot 75133
SB222-75133r.jpg

This specimen was lot 75133 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. 8 Reales, 1839-LIMA MB. Lima Mint. PCGS Genuine--Chopmark, VF Details. This circulated crown-sized issue displays nice details and an even pattern of wear. A chop mark on the reverse serves as evidence of circulation of this piece in the Orient." This type was struck in Lima and Cuzco 1828-36, 1838-40. Most dates are common but the 1839 is a little scarce as most of Lima's output that year was made for the shortlived state of North Peru.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a better date.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-142.3.
