Peru 1839-L MB 2 reales
This specimen was lot 2046 in Classical Numismatic Group's auction of the Richard Lissner collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $1,694. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU, Republic. 1821-present. AR 2 Reales. Lima mint. Dated 1839 (LIMÆ) MB. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 65. Superb original deep to moderate patina with fine lustrous surfaces. Truly a fantastic type coin and only coin of the date graded. Purchased from M. Louis Teller, October 1997. Ex Andre de Clement Collection." This type is listed for 1825-40 with an interruption 1836-39 while the coinage of North Peru was issued. This specimen realized ten times the catalog value.
