This specimen was lot 2031 in Sedwick Auction 36 (Winter Park, FL, November 2024), where it sold for $510. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU, Lima, 1 real, 1839 MB, ex-O'Brien. Lustrous AU+ with an off-center strike leading to some weakness in part of the legends, very flashy fields with pale golden toning, among the best known examples for the date. Pedigreed to the John O'Brien Collection, with his tag." This type is listed for 1825-40 with an interruption 1837-38 while the coinage of North Peru was issued. In 1841, the design was modified to add the fineness to the shield side (KM 145.4).
