Uruguay 1869-A centesimo
The first specimen was lot 72872 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it sold for $110. The catalog description[1] noted, "URUGUAY. Centesimo, 1869-A. Paris Mint. Republic. PCGS MS-64 Red Brown. A highly attractive near Gem, this brilliance piece features a good deal of red mint luster peeking though the brown. The sole and finest certified by PCGS. From the Cerro Catedral Collection." This type, along with a two and four centésimos, was struck at Paris (shown here) and Heaton, Birmingham, and is common in circulated condition. The next one centésimo was issued in 1901.
Recorded mintage: 1,000,000 plus another 1,000,000 from Heaton, Birmingham.
