This specimen was lot 72871 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it sold for $90. The catalog description[1] noted, "URUGUAY. Centesimo, 1869-H. Heaton Mint. Republic. PCGS MS-64 Red Brown. An intensely bright red-brown with some areas tinted magenta, this attractive near Gem has rotating luster and exceptional eye appeal. From the Cerro Catedral Collection." This type, along with a two and four centésimos, was struck at Paris and Heaton, Birmingham (shown here), and is common in circulated condition. The next one centésimo was issued in 1901.
Recorded mintage: 1,000,000 plus another 1,000,000 from Paris.
