The first specimen was lot 72890 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it sold for $110. The catalog description[1] noted, "URUGUAY. Centesimo, 1901-A. Paris Mint. PCGS MS-66 Gold Shield. A satiny piece that exhibits intense luster and an azure hue. Tied for finest known with only one other in the PCGS Population Report. From the Cerro Catedral Collection." This type was struck 1901, 1909, 1924 and 1936 at Paris except for the 1924, struck at Poissy. It accompanied a similar two and five centésimos.
Recorded mintage: 6,000,000 plus proofs.
