Sedwick Treasure auction 26, lot 757
from the Mountain Groan Collection
Chile 1791 real rev DSLR.jpg

The first specimen was lot 757 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 26 (Winter Park, FL, November 2019), where it sold for $416.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Santiago, Chile, bust 1 real, Charles IV transitional (bust of Charles III, ordinal IIII), 1791DA, NGC VF 20, finest and only example in NGC census. Attractive light toning all over, broad flan, slightly off-center strike, scarce one-year type." This example, from a type struck 1791 only, realized double the catalog value, reflecting the fact that this is its first appearance in any auction in several years.

Recorded mintage: 20,000 (including KM 36).

Specification: 3.38 g, 0.896 fine silver.

Catalog reference: CT-587; KM-48, Cayón-13384.
