Bengal (1793-1818)/19 rupee
This specimen was lot 42277 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $528. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. Bengal Presidency. Rupee, 'Year 19' (struck 1793-1818). Calcutta (as "Murshidabad") Mint. In the name of Shah Alam II. NGC MS-65." This type was struck with a frozen date. While the Mughal Empire lasted, the British in Bengal were careful to strike coinage in the emperor's name. Only the coppers showed the arms of the East India Company.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 11.6 g, silver.
