Sincona sale 11, lot 2505

This specimen was lot 2505 in Sincona sale 11 (Zurich, May 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description[2] noted,

"RUSSLAND Alexander I. 1801-1825. 5 Kopeken 1823, St. Petersburg. Selten. NGC MS62. FDC. (Russia, Alexander I, 1801-25, five kopeks of 1823, St. Petersburg mint, rare, NGC 62.)"

This type is listed for 1810-26 and has a low catalog value in circulated condition. Silver five kopeks (KM C96.1, C126, C156, C163, Y19) alternated with copper five kopeks (KM C115, C140, C152, Y6, Y12) until 1880, when the issue of copper five kopeks ceased.

Recorded mintage: 2,300,000.

Specification: 1.04 g, .868 fine silver, .029 troy oz ASW.
