Hungary 1792-A 1/2 thaler KM-408

from the Stack's Bowers June 2021 Collector's Choice sale, lot 71600

This specimen was lot 71600 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $600. The catalog description^[1] noted, "HUNGARY. 1/2 Taler, 1792-A. Vienna Mint. Franz II. NGC AU-58. The most elusive date of this three-year type, this nearly Mint State example exhibits dappled multicolored tone throughout the semi-reflective fields. Listed in the Standard Catalog of World Coins with a value of $475 in XF condition and $725 in UNC." This type was struck 1792-94 and is scarce. Another half thaler (KM 405) was struck 1790-92 for Joseph II.
