Stack's Bowers 2024 NYINC sale, lot 58585

This specimen was lot 58585 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $1,140. The catalog description[1] noted, "UNITED ARAB EMIRATES. Ajman. 25 Riyals, ND (1970). NGC PROOF-62 Ultra Cameo. Albert Luthuli facing left. Men of peace series." Ajman only issued coins in 1969-71 and all are NCLT's. The sheikdom joined the United Arab Emirates and coinage ceased. Wikipedia comments, "Albert John Luthuli (c. 1898 – 21 July 1967) was a South African anti-apartheid activist, traditional leader, and politician who served as the President-General of the African National Congress from 1952 until his death in 1967."
