This specimen was lot 24675 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $408. The catalog description[1] noted, "POLAND. 1,000 Zlotych, 1982-CHI. PCGS PROOF-68 CAMEO. Mintage of 1,700 in proof. No spots, tone or fog. Brilliant and attractive." Pope John Paul II, the first non-Italian pope in several centuries, was a Polish celebrity of the first order and even the Communist regime could not pass up the opportunity to issue NCLT's in his honor. The 1982 series include 100, 200, 1000, 2000, 5000, 10,000 zlotych denominations in various metals.

Recorded mintage: 900 + 1,700 proofs.

Specification: 3.40 g, 0.900 fine gold.
