The specimen shown was lot 242 in Aureo y Calicó sale 232 (Barcelona, March 2011), where it sold for 750 euros (about US$1,237 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"1799. Santiago. DA. 8 reales. Atractiva. Parte de brillo original. Rara así. EBC-/EBC. (Eight reales of 1799, Santiago mint; attractive and rare, with some original luster, extremely fine.)
This type was issued from Santiago 1791-1808. While the bust issues of Charles IV are more available than most of his predecessor, this date is rare. The SCWC prices it triple the 1793.
