Steve Album sale 30, lot 839

This specimen was lot 839 in Stephen Album sale 30 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2018), where it sold for $440.63. The catalog description[1] noted, "IRAN: Muzaffar al-Din Shah, 1896-1907, AR 500 dinars, AH1323, lovely iridescent bluish toning, exceptional state of preservation for type! PCGS graded MS64." This one year type, the first of its denomination to feature a portrait of the shah, is rather scarce. It was accompanied by a 1000 dinars (KM 978) and 2000 dinars (KM 979). The next 500 dinars was issued in 1907 by Muhammed Ali Shah (KM 1014).

Recorded mintage: 130,000.
