This specimen was lot 72303 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA. Real, 1821-PTS PJ. Potosi Mint. Ferdinand VII. NGC MS-62. Battleship gray toning with alluring underlying luster. A choice coin from colonial Bolivia." This type was struck in Upper Peru 1813-25 and is the last colonial type before independence. The elite of Upper Peru, fearful of Indian revolt, had no interest in separating from Spain but finally did so to avoid annexation by Peru or Argentina. Assayer PJ is recorded for 1803-25.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.38 g, 0.896 fine silver.

Catalog reference: Cayón-limonite, KM-87.
