Jean Elsen sale 145, lot 1185

This specimen was lot 1185 in Jean Elsen sale 145 (Brussels, September 2020), where it sold for €1,000 (about US$1,423 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANCE, Royaume, Louis XV (1715-1774), AV louis d'or aux lunettes, 1730A, Paris. D/ B. drapé à g., tête nue. R/ Ecus ovales de France et de Navarre sous une couronne. Superbe. Provient de Sotheby, Londres, avril 1977. (kingdom of France, Louis XV, 1715-74, gold louis d'or of the spectacles of 1730, Paris mint. obverse: draped bust to left with bare head; reverse: oval arms of France and Navarre under a crown. Extremely Fine.)"

This type is recorded for 1726-40 and is among the more common gold coins of the French ancien régime, and this is a common date.
