Shown is a 1730-I vingtième d'écu aux branches d'olivier of the Limoges mint (mintmark "I"). The first specimen was lot 1377 in Jean Elsen sale 96. This coin was part of the great coinage reform of Cardinal Fleury which finally terminated the manipulations which had disrupted the economy since the 1690's. Many more dates are known than are listed in the SCWC, which lists only 1729-31 for the Limoges mint while Droulers[1] adds 1733-36. The twentieth écu was the ancien régime version of a half dime tho never struck in sufficient numbers to really convert France to a decimal currency.

Recorded mintage: unknown but slightly scarce.

Specification: 1.47 g, 0.917 fine silver, reeded edge, designed by J.-C. Röettiers.

Catalog reference: Dr/4 № 856, Dr/2 № 583, KM 480.9.
