This specimen was lot 99110 in Heritage sale 61259 (Dallas, TX, February 2022), where it sold for $1,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "France: Louis XV gold 1/2 Louis d'or 1730-S VF30 NGC, Reims mint, 1/2 Louis d'Or aux lunettes. A rare type from this scarcer mint, bearing moderately handled surfaces with ample remnant details to the peripheries and a lovely amber tone. Only the second example graded by the two major grading companies." The type was struck 1726-39. Like all half louis, it is rare but this issue is probably the most available of all demi-louis d'or. The Reims mint struck this type 1726-27 and 1730. Despite there being only three known dates, Reims is among the more available mints.

Recorded mintage: 4,987.

Specification: 4.08 g, 0.917 fine gold, reeded edge, reeded edge, designed by J.-C. Roëttiers.

Catalog reference: Dr/4 № 808, Dr/2 № 541, Fr-462, KM 488.3, Gad-329, Dupl-1641, L4L-479 (R5).
