Goldberg sale 128, lot 1243

This specimen was lot 1243 in Goldberg sale 128 (Los Angeles, June 2022), where it sold for $1,080. The catalog description[1] noted, "France. Louis d'or aux 4 L, 1694-X (Amiens). Louis XIV. Older laureate head right. Reverse: Four L's and four lis's around mint mark. Struck over earlier type. NGC graded Uncirculated Detail (Cleaned)." Droulers[2] lists this type for 1693-1700. This date is unknown on new blanks and somewhat scarce on "flans reformées". Twenty-four mints contributed in 1694.

Recorded mintage: 3,292 fn + unknown rf[2].

Specification: 6.75 g, .917 fine gold, 24-26 mm diameter, reeded edge.
