Jean Elsen sale 136, lot 1138

This specimen was lot 1138 in Jean Elsen sale 136 (Brussels, March 2018), where it sold for €135 (about US$198 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BELGIQUE, Royaume, Léopold Ier (1831-1865), Cu 1 centime, 1847. Très Beau à Superbe. (kingdom of Belgium, Leopold I, 1831-65, copper centime of 1847. Very fine to extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1833-63 at the Brussels mint in numerous varieties; despite the large mintage, this date is scarce in nice condition.

Recorded mintage: 5,138,000.

Specification: 1.8 g, copper.

Catalog reference: Dupriez 353, KM 1.2.
