A standout representative of this elusive and highly popular Taler issue featuring the rampant lion of Hesse-Cassel to the obverse and a stormy townscape to the reverse. The sole example of this variant certified by NGC to date, and notably among the finest recognized by that service for the type as a whole, with only an exceedingly small handful certifying choice. Strikingly toned over serene, glass-like surfaces, with an abundance of golden iridescence throughout." Davenport lists 13 different thalers (Dav-6755, -6757, -6759, -6760, -6761, -6762, -6763, -A6764, -6765, -6766, -6770, -6771, -6772, -6773, not counting double thalers) from Hesse-Cassel for 1637. On this example, the mintmaster's initials are above the lion and rain and lightning blast the leftmost building on the reverse.
