This specimen was lot 71179 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $1,440. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Prussia. 10 Mark, 1902-A. Berlin Mint. Wilhelm II. NGC PROOF-62 Ultra Cameo. Some scattered marks in the fields are noted, but are entirely consistent with the grading level, and do not detract from the great cameo nature that is presented through superb frosting." This type, issued 1890-1913, is common and is a product of the Berlin mint. The proofs are rare.
Recorded mintage: 270,911 + proofs, a slightly better date.
Specification: 3.98 g, .900 fine gold, reeded edge.
