from the Stack's Bowers 2019 ANA sale, lot 20557
Gabon SB819-20557r.jpg

This specimen was lot 20557 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2019), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "GABON. Aluminum Token, 1929. PCGS AU-53 Gold Shield. VERY RARE, this non-denominated token remains sharp overall, with patches of surface patination and typically hazy tone over the aluminum surfaces." Without any value stamped upon it, it is difficult to guess what this token traded for in French Equatorial Africa in the late 1920's. Others exist with a leopard, pelican and elephant.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: aluminum.

Catalog reference: KM Tn5, Lec-21.
