Gabon 1960 25 francs
The first specimen was lot 1361 in Sincona sale 38 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 475 CHF (about US$570 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Gabon, Republik, seit 1960 25 Francs 1960. Präsident Leon Mba. Polierte Platte. FDC. (republic of Gabon, since 1960, twenty-five francs of 1960, for President Mba. Choice Proof.)"
The second specimen was part of lot 1069 in Goldberg sale 116 (Los Angeles, June 2020), which sold for $636. The catalog description[2] noted, "Gabon. 10 and 25 Francs, 1960. KM-1,2. Total weight 0.3530 ounce. Head of Mba. Independence. Lot of 2 coins. Choice Brilliant Proof." Like the coinage of many impoverished African countries, the commemoratives such as this one, which were sold outside the country, are easier to obtain than circulating coinage. It is accompanied by gold ten, fifty and hundred francs. The next coin issue would be in 1969.
