Goldberg sale 116, part of lot 1069
Gabon G116-1069d.jpg

This specimen was part of lot 1069 in Goldberg sale 116 (Los Angeles, June 2020), which sold for $636. The catalog description[2] noted, "Gabon. 10 and 25 Francs, 1960. KM-1,2. Head of Mba. Independence. Lot of 2 coins. Choice Brilliant Proof." Like the coinage of many impoverished African countries, the commemoratives such as this one, which were sold outside the country, are easier to obtain than circulating coinage. It is accompanied by gold twenty-five, fifty and hundred francs. The next coin issue would be in 1969.

Recorded mintage: 500 proofs.

Specification: 4.2 g, 0.900 fine gold.

Catalog reference: KM 1.
