Sweden 1605 4 mark
Revision as of 10:07, 7 April 2025 by LatinKing2020 (talk | contribs) (Text replacement - "1607 4 öre" to "1607 ½ mark (4 öre)")
This specimen was lot 30965 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $910.63. The catalog description[1] noted, "Carl IX 4 Mark 1605, Stockholm mint, XF Details (Mount Removed) NGC. An attractive coin with aged cabinet patina and well-struck details. The mount removal is not easily seen in the holder and the surfaces do not display the usual burnished appearance from jewelry use. Quite nice for this early 4 Mark." This type of 1604-06 is too small to qualify as a thaler and lacks a Davenport number. It likely traded for two-thirds of a thaler. It is expensive in nice condition.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 19.74 g, .821 fine silver.
