Bolivia 1767-P V-Y 2 reales
This specimen was lot 26388 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA. Cob 2 Reales, 1767-P V-Y. Potosi Mint. Charles III. PCGS VF-25. Fairly well worn from time in circulation, this wholesome specimen nevertheless sports a clear date and remains problem-free. From the Mark and Lottie Salton Collection." Milled coinage was introduced at the Potosí mint in 1767 but the production of cobs did not cease. In fact, in 1771, milled coinage was suspended there. The mintmaster was rebuked for this and forced to return to milling coins in 1773 with the introduction of portrait coinage.
