Saxony 1765-C pfennig

Sincona sale 38, lot 1234

This specimen was lot 1234 in Sincona sale 38 (Zurich, May 2017), where it sold for 525 CHF (about US$630 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"Sachsen, Kurfürstentum, Friedrich August III. (I.), 1763-1827 1/4 Dukat 1765. C-Dresden Goldabschlag vom Pfennig. Vorzüglich-FDC. (Germany, electorate of Saxony, Frederick August III, 1763-1827, quarter ducat of 1765, Dresden mint, struck on pfennig dies. Extremely fine-uncirculated.)"

The regular issue was a billon one year type. It was converted to copper in 1772.
