Sincona sale 70, lot 3336

This specimen was lot 3336 in Sincona sale 70 (Zürich, May 2021), where it sold for 650 CHF (about US$863 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SWITZERLAND | Geneva | Stadt und Kanton. 3 Sols 1795, Genf. Ohne Mzz. und mit je einem Stern neben der Jahreszahl. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. FDC. (Switzerland, city and canton of Geneva, three sols of 1795, Geneva mint. Without mintmark and with a star near the date. Very rare in this condition, Uncirculated.)"

This type was struck during a French-sponsored revolution which toppled the old oligarchy. The silver issue had the initials "TB" added. This example realized three times the catalog value.

Reported Mintage: unknown.

Specification: billon, this specimen 1.93 g.

Catalog reference: KM 108 (billon), KM 108a (silver), D.T. 1037a, HMZ 2-347i.
