Prussia 1767-D mariengroschen
This specimen was lot 3688 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €650 (about US$905 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. Mariengroschen 1767, D, Aurich. Prägung für die westlichen Landesteile. R Sehr schön. Exemplar der Auktion Kölner Münzkabinett 50, Köln 1990, Nr. 204. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, mariengroschen of 1767, Aurich mint, struck for the western provinces. Rare, very fine.)"
This type was struck 1767-68 for use in East Friesland and is somewhat scarce. This denomination was last struck in 1775. One thaler made 36 mariengroschen.
