Stack's Bowers February 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 73231

This specimen was lot 73231 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $360. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick. Taler, 1675-IPE. Zellerfeld Mint. Rudolph August. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, AU Details. Very lightly cleaned as noted, this handsomely toned wildman crown yields excellent overall detail with some deepening of color nearer the edges and with some hints of brilliance emerging from the recesses. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck 1667-83 for Rudolf August and is common. Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel is famous for its long series of wild man thalers.
